Cinemadinner: The City Dark

Special Dinner Friday

A wonderful and unforgettable way to dine: enjoy a tasty three-course menu, while watching a movie The City Dark.

A documentary about light pollution and the disappearance of the dark sky. Having moved from rural Maine to over-illuminated New York, filmmaker Ian Cheney asked himself: “Do we need darkness?" Cheney unravels the countless consequences of our illuminated cities: from the threat of killer asteroids in Hawaii, via maintaining the hatching of turtles along the coast of Florida, to the increased risk of breast cancer due to exposure to night light. It is not, however, a complaint film: it discusses all the different aspects of the dark sky, with splendid astrophotography and interviews with eclectic scientists and scholars, philosophers, historians and light designers.
